Abstract

The concept of "Tat Tvam Asi" is one of the essential teachings in Hinduism, emphasizing the unity between the individual (Atman) and the Absolute (Brahman). Although this teaching is spiritually and ethically important, there is a gap between the understanding of this teaching and its application in the social lives of Hindu students. This study aims to identify this gap and explore the role of "Tat Tvam Asi" in shaping students' ethics. The methodology used is a qualitative approach with a literature review analyzing Hindu scriptures and the relevance of their application in education. The discussion reveals that this gap is caused by factors such as globalization, modernization, and the lack of integration between spiritual education and social life. The findings indicate that while students theoretically understand the concept of "Tat Tvam Asi," its application in daily life is not fully realized due to influences from family environment, education, and social pressures that emphasize materialistic and individualistic values. To address this issue, a more holistic educational approach is needed, involving schools, families, and social environments in instilling spiritual values more deeply. In conclusion, the teaching of "Tat Tvam Asi" can serve as a strong foundation in shaping social ethics if effectively integrated into the curriculum and educational practices.
