Analisis Semiotika Pada Film Peekay Fersepektif Filsafat Hindu

Abstract

Peekay is a film that presents a critical perspective on religious practices through the use of various religious symbols. The film portrays the journey of its main character in understanding the concept of God amidst religious and cultural diversity. This study aims to analyze the denotative and connotative meanings of religious symbols in Peekay, interpret the messages conveyed from the perspective of Hindu philosophy, and examine the behavioral implications presented in the film toward religious understanding. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a hermeneutic method. Roland Barthes' semiotic theory was applied to analyze denotation, connotation, and myth embedded in the film's scenes, while reception theory was used to examine audience interpretations. The findings reveal that religious symbols in Peekay function not only as markers of religious identity but also as instruments for criticizing formalistic religious practices that often neglect spiritual values. From the perspective of Hindu philosophy, the search for truth should be grounded in viveka (discriminative wisdom), dharma, and Tri Pramana as valid sources of knowledge. The film contributes to developing a more critical and reflective understanding of religion while maintaining spiritual and humanitarian values.
