Abstract

The declining religious character among young generations and the limited integration of classical Hindu texts in Hindu Religious Education (PAH) highlight the need for new pedagogical approaches that address moral and spiritual dimensions more deeply. This study aims to analyze the religious values embedded in the Purana and Itihasa and to formulate a conceptual model for strengthening religious character based on these classical texts within the PAH curriculum. Employing a qualitative-descriptive method, this research uses library studies and content analysis supported by narrative pedagogy, character education, and curriculum theory. The findings reveal six core religious values sraddha, bhakti, dharma, tattwa, yajña, and śila that are highly relevant for character formation through narrative, reflective, and experiential learning. Integrating these values into curriculum elements enriches learning outcomes, instructional content, pedagogical strategies, and holistic character assessment. The study proposes a conceptual model based on Purana Itihasa narratives that bridges classical Hindu wisdom with contemporary educational needs. The implications include pedagogical innovation, improved teacher competence, and the development of a more spiritual, contextual, and transformative PAH curriculum.
