BAHASA POLITIK DALAM TINJAUAN FILSAFAT ANALITIK: MENIMBANG PEMIKIRAN WERNER HOLLY
Keywords:
language, politics, werner holly, analytic philosophyAbstract
This paper aims to examine the political language in Werner Holly's thought which is then reviewed from analytic philosophy. The material object in this discussion is the political language of Werner Holly's perspective. The formal object is the analytical philosophy of language. This article uses qualitative/library research methods with elements of interpretation, internal coherence, and description methods. The results of the discussion found that: First, political language loses its credibility due to politicians' bad reputation regarding their political behaviour, which is largely caused by the way they use language. Second, the vote of no confidence against politicians refers more to the lack of openness in the way they act verbally. That lack of openness is often seen as 'obfuscating' or 'manipulating' which makes a difference between what is said and what is meant. Thirdly, there is an almost universal principle in political language. That any utterance must be formulated, any expression must be chosen in such a way as to serve the purpose of propaganda. Fourth, it follows that almost all political language in the public arena has two layers of meaning that cannot suffice with a single level of interpretation. Unlike everyday language, political language has its own special character. Finally, an examination of the discussion of "Credibility and political language" in Werner Holly's paper focuses more on the pragmatic approach to language. In Austin's perspective, it is found that political language is closely related to the flow of pragmatics and speech acts that connect language with context.
