The discourse of postmodernism cannot be separated from modernism. There is an assumption that postmodernism is a continuation of modernism. However, in Islam, the issue of modernism and postmodernism seems to be a frightening specter, because it is very open and tends to be liberal. This article will elaborate on postmodernism in Islam, as described by Akbar S. Ahmed. In Islam, postmodernism is a movement to return to the values of the Islamic tradition itself. Although it is commonly known that postmodernism will provide a number of critical evaluations of the expectations of modern society with new discourses and thoughts
