Abstract

This study examines the Lontar Saśanagamā Tīrtha Śiwātma as an epistemological system grounded in Śiwa cosmology. Previous studies have largely adopted a descriptive-functional approach, leaving its ontological and epistemological relations insufficiently integrated. Using a philosophical hermeneutic framework, this study analyzes the transformation from śūnya as the ontological ground to śabda as the epistemological structure. The findings indicate that śūnya is a pre-manifest metaphysical reality serving as the source of cosmic emanation, later articulated within a system of knowledge through Sapta Saraswati. Knowledge is thus understood as a form of divine emanation manifested in language, rather than merely the product of empirical experience. The relationship between Śiwa theology and literature is circular-hermeneutic, where the text mediates dialogue between revelation and human experience. These findings affirm that Balinese Hindu literature constitutes an emanative epistemological system linking metaphysical reality, language, and religious praxis.
