Abstract

The Tiwah ceremony is an important ritual in the traditions of the Dayak people of Central Kalimantan, especially in the funeral process which aims to honor ancestral spirits. One of the cultural elements that stands out in this ceremony is the katambung, which is a traditional container made of ironwood, woven bamboo and carved using chisels. This research examines the artistic values contained in katambung and its role in the Tiwah ceremony. Through qualitative methods, this research identifies various aspects of art, including aesthetics, symbolism, and catambung making techniques. The research results show that the katambung not only functions as a storage tool, but also as a symbol of cultural identity and spirituality of the Dayak people. The skill in weaving catambung reflects a rich cultural heritage and strengthens community ties. This research emphasizes the importance of preserving artistic values in Katambung to maintain the sustainability of the community's traditions and cultural identity. The Tiwah ceremony through the use of Katambung becomes a means of celebrating life and honoring death.
