Mitologi Lokal Dan Perilaku Gotong Royong Masyarakat: Studi Di Gua Kebon Kulon Progo

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the values embedded in the mythology of Sendang Kiai Pitu and its relationship with the practice of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) in the community of Gua Kebon, Kulon Progo. A qualitative approach with an ethnographic design was employed to explore local cultural meanings and social practices in depth. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving three purposively selected informants who had relevant knowledge of the local mythology and community life. The data were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while the validity of the findings was ensured through source triangulation. The results show that the mythology of Sendang Kiai Pitu contains important values such as environmental stewardship, obedience to customary norms, togetherness, and social responsibility. These values are continuously preserved and internalized in the daily lives of the community. They are reflected in various practices of gotong royong, including environmental maintenance, collective work in public facilities, traditional ceremonies, and mutual assistance in social activities. These practices are carried out inclusively without distinguishing religion, ethnicity, or regional origin. The study concludes that the mythology of Sendang Kiai Pitu plays an important role in strengthening the tradition of mutual cooperation and maintaining social harmony within the multicultural society of Gua Kebon. It functions not only as a cultural narrative but also as a source of social values that supports cohesion and solidarity in community life.
