Nilai Toleransi Dalam Tradisi Merti Dusun Sebagai Wujud Pendidikan Multikultural Di Dusun Butuh Lor

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Merti Dusun tradition as a form of multicultural education and the values of tolerance embedded within it in Butuh Lor Hamlet. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed in this study. Data were collected through purposive sampling, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by source triangulation to ensure validity. The findings show that the Merti Dusun tradition involves active participation of local residents, youth, and migrant communities in collective activities such as community meetings, mutual cooperation work, tarub and gunungan preparation, cultural processions, and artistic performances. The study also reveals that tolerance is reflected in mutual respect, acceptance of migrants, appreciation of cultural and linguistic differences, and equal participation opportunities. Communication between groups reflects adaptive interaction that supports social harmony. In conclusion, the Merti Dusun tradition functions not only as cultural heritage but also as a medium of multicultural education that strengthens tolerance, cooperation, and social unity in Butuh Lor Hamlet. These findings indicate that the preservation of local traditions can serve as an effective strategy for fostering intercultural understanding, strengthening community resilience, and promoting inclusive education practices in rural multicultural settings. Furthermore, the tradition reinforces social cohesion and encourages sustainable collaboration between indigenous and migrant groups, thereby contributing to long term cultural continuity and harmony within the village context. Therefore, local governments and educators are encouraged to integrate such cultural practices into multicultural education programs and communities widely.
