ABSTRACT
This research examines and analyzes the meaning contained in the bubak manten
tradition in Javanese ethnic wedding traditions. Bubak manten is a tradition carried out by
ethnic Javanese at a wedding when marrying their child. in Javanese ethnic wedding
traditions. In this research the author uses a qualitative approach using ethnographic
methods. This ethnographic method is appropriate to the research because ethnography
investigates the society and culture related to bubak manten in Javanese ethnic wedding
traditions. In accordance with the aim of this research is to study and analyzed to obtain the
finding that bubak manten in the Javanese ethnic wedding tradition has a different
understanding in society. Java is interpreted as paving the way or opening the door of
fortune for children who are married off and also has the meaning of equipping children to
open fortune.
