Abstract

The Ngalingu Liau ritual, as part of the Tantulak Ambun Rutas Matei ceremonial sequence, is one of the Hindu religious traditions in the Indonesian archipelago, particularly in Central Kalimantan, which demonstrates a profound integration of Vedic teachings and local wisdom. However, the advancement of modernization has led to shifts in the interpretation of this ritual, especially among younger generations, resulting in an incomplete understanding of its philosophical, pedagogical, and spiritual values. This paper seeks to re-examine the relevance of Ngalingu Liau as a medium for values education and spiritual character formation from a Hindu perspective. This study employs a literature review method with a descriptive-analytical approach, examining sources related to ritual practices, symbolism, Hindu educational values, and ethical concepts such as Dharma, Bhakti, Karma Marga, Tri Kaya Parisudha, and Tri Hita Karana. The analysis reveals that Ngalingu Liau functions as a holistic educational medium integrating philosophical, ethical, and religious dimensions. The value of Dharma is reflected in reverence for ancestors as an expression of fulfilling cosmic obligations; Bhakti is manifested through sincere devotion in prayers and offerings; while Karma Marga is realized through selfless service embodied in collective actions during the ritual performance. Furthermore, the application of Tri Kaya Parisudha is evident in the purification of thought, speech, and action at each stage of the ritual, making it an effective means of moral and spiritual character formation. Learning through symbols, actions, and reflection within this ritual also strengthens the internalization of values related to sanctity, balance in life, and ethical responsibility. In addition, Ngalingu Liau holds significant relevance in both formal and non-formal education as a source of learning grounded in local culture, enriching contextual learning processes and reinforcing the religious and moral identity of younger generations. Thus, this ritual is not merely a form of religious cultural heritage, but also a spiritual educational laboratory that remains highly relevant to the development of Hindu education in the modern era.
