Abstract
This article explores the phenomenon of comercialisation of traditional Balinese theater arts, especially the "Bali Agung Theatre," in the context of the cultural tourism industry in Bali. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, this research analyzes how the Bali Agung theater arts are adapted and modified to meet the needs of the tourism market. Data was collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with artists, tourism managers and audiences, as well as analysis of related documents. The results show that although this commodification has helped preserve some aspects of traditional theatre, there are concerns about authenticity and loss of original cultural values. This article also discusses the economic and social impacts of this commodification, as well as the challenges and opportunities faced by arts practitioners and tourism managers in maintaining a balance between cultural preservation and economic needs. It is hoped that these findings will provide new insights for the development of sustainable tourism policies that respect and preserve Bali's cultural heritage.
