Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the Tasik Segara Salt Farmers Group in developing educational salt farming tourism in Les Village and to understand its contribution to maintaining the sustainability of local salt farming. However, in its current development, salt farming in Les Village faces various internal and external challenges, including unpredictable weather conditions that affect production, limited access to modern retail markets, relatively low levels of traditional salt production, decreasing agricultural land, and the declining interest of younger generations in continuing the profession as salt farmers. These challenges indicate the need for strategic efforts to maintain the existence and sustainability of local salt farming practices. Using Role Theory, Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) Theory, and Sustainable Tourism Theory, this research examines how the Tasik Segara Salt Farmers Group carries out its role in addressing these challenges through the development of educational tourism. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study method, where data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the Tasik Segara Salt Farmers Group plays a significant and strategic role in maintaining the existence of local salt farming, particularly through initiatives in educational tourism development. This role is influenced by various supporting and inhibiting factors that arise from both internal and external conditions faced by the farmers. Furthermore, the implementation of educational tourism not only contributes to sustaining local salt farming but also generates broader implications, including environmental sustainability, socio-cultural preservation, and the improvement of local economic conditions within the community.
