ABSTRACT
This research aims to examine the implementation of the integration of local cultural values in
the literacy program at Mayong State Elementary School, as well as to explore its impact on
students' literacy abilities. Literacy here is understood not only as reading and writingskills, but
also as the ability to understand and appreciate local culture through teachingmaterials based
on local folklore and traditions. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study
method. Data was collected through interviews with teachers, classroom observations, and
analysis of learning documents. The research results show that the integration of local cultural
values in the literacy program at SD Negeri 1 Mayong has a positive impact on students' reading
and writing skills. Apart from that, this approach also strengthens students' understanding of
their culture, supports the preservation of local cultural values, and helps shape students' better
character, such as respect for traditions and the environment. However, this research also found
several challenges in its implementation, including limited educational resources and resistance
to curriculum changes. Therefore, it is recommended to increase training for teachers and
provide more local culture-based teaching materials to support the sustainability of this
program.
